Regional Academy - registrations open at the button below
Saturday 8th - Sunday 9th November 2025
Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School
Strings only (violin, viola, cello)
What is it?
Four days (metro)/Two days (regional) of chamber music under the guidance of Australia's best chamber musicians.
How does it work?
Students experience tutorials and rehearsals with two small ensembles, chamber orchestra and fun and informative workshops each day. Pieces rehearsed during the week are performed at a Final Concert on the last evening.
Students receive their music 3 to 4 weeks in advance so that they can feel fully prepared for playing in their ensembles.
Students may attend as individuals or with a pre-formed group, however applications must be submitted individually.
Who is it for?
Open to students aged 9 - 17 of the instruments below:
-
Violin, viola or cello students who have been playing for at least 2 years
-
Piano students at least Grade 6 AMEB (or equivalent) - Metro venues only
-
Flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon or French horn students - Metro venues only. 1 to 2 places available for each instrument - determined by video audition.
Audition procedure:
String and piano participants will be required to submit a video of themselves playing one or two set excerpts and a chosen piece. This assists with placing students in ensembles. Students will be placed in one of two streams according to their level:
-
Masters stream - students up to approximately grade 6 level
-
Elite stream - students approximately grade 6+ (numbers are limited for this stream)
Students applying for the woodwind quintet places are required to submit a video of themselves playing 1 minute of a chosen piece. From this, selected students will be invited to register for the Academy with a unique code following the closing date. Students applying for the woodwind quintet places can submit their application here.
NB. The organisation of students into streams is dependent on numbers of participants and is at the discretion of the Director.
EXCERPTS
String and piano students are required to record the set excerpts below, plus 1 minute of a piece of their own choice. Excerpts for Spring Academy will be released on 28 July.

-
Seating in the orchestra
It is important to try and reflect your best playing in these videos.
-
Please record the student in VIDEO (phone videos are acceptable) - make sure we can see you!
