What is it?

Four days (metro)/Two days (regional) of chamber music under the guidance of Australia's best chamber musicians.

How does it work?

Students experience tutorials and rehearsals with two small ensembles, chamber orchestra and fun and informative workshops each day. Pieces rehearsed during the week are performed at a Final Concert on the last evening.

Students receive their music 3 to 4 weeks in advance so that they can feel fully prepared for playing in their ensembles.

Students may attend as individuals or with a pre-formed group, however applications must be submitted individually.

Who is it for?

Open to students aged 10 - 17 of the instruments below:

  • Violin, viola or cello students who have been playing for at least 2 years

  • Piano students at least Grade 6 AMEB (or equivalent) - Metro venues only

Is there an audition?

No audition is necessary however registered participants will be required to submit a video recording of themselves playing one or two set excerpts (see below) and a chosen piece. This assists with placing students in ensembles. Students will be placed in one of two streams according to their level:

  • Masters stream - students up to approximately grade 6 level

  • Elite stream - students approximately grade 6+ (places in the Elite stream are limited and numbers may vary each Academy)

NB. The organisation of students into streams is dependent on numbers of participants and is at the discretion of the Director.

EXCERPTS

All participants registering for Academy places are required to record set excerpts, which are available here 2 weeks before the final closing date.

Violin excerpts

Viola excerpts

Cello excerpts

Piano excerpts

Your recordings help us to determine:

  1. Which stream you will be in (Elite or Masters)

  2. Which other students are a similar level to you so we can put you together in a group

  3. The most appropriate level repertoire for you and your ensemble

  4. Seating in the orchestra

It is important to try and reflect your best playing in these videos.

  • Please record the student in VIDEO (phone videos are acceptable) - make sure we can see you!

  • You are to make 2 recordings - one of the set excerpt and one of your own choice piece (1 minute).

  • Please send your 2 videos to info@wayachamp.com either attached directly or linked to a cloud-based sharing platform (dropbox, google drive etc), or via WhatsApp to 0410708612
